about

What Happens Afterwards’, is a song, like many others, about the age of anxiety we are living through. The sparse, looping lyrics are inspired by Bamidele’s on/off relationship with meditation. A stark reminder, mainly to himself, that the only thing that matters is the ‘now’ and to focus too much on anything else can be detrimental. Written and produced from his bedroom with friends Dave Bryce and Ish Hussein, the song is a big sonic left turn for Bamidele.

‘What Happens Afterwards’ is a first for this artist in many ways. It’s his first departure from traditional song structure. His first time writing with others and not solely on his own. and it’s his first release with a featured artist. The precociously gifted Dave Bryce graces the keys on ‘WHA’, in a way that complements Bamidele’s vocals and production so beautifully. Gently supporting the hypnotic groove with a warm wurli, before delivering a fully-charged keys solo in the song’s instrumentals section. Holding down the groove is Ish Hussein, one of Brighton’s finest Bass players (Kymara, Sergio Selva, Isle of CC). Ish keeps us in a state of hypnosis in the song’s first movement, before demonstrating his rhythmic and melodic prowess towards the song's climax.
